American Century Golf Championship Recap
Korbel proudly sponsored the 28th annual American Century Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nevada from July 11 – 16, 2017. The tournament is a 54-hole modified Stableford format that attracts some of the greatest celebrities in sports and entertainment with more than 80 personalities competing to raise money for charities.
Throughout the weekend, in addition to the tournament, popular events such as the KORBEL Closest to the Pin competition and the fan-favorite KORBEL Celebrity Spray-Off competition allow celebrities the opportunity to put both their golf and uncorking skills to the test.
This year, during the KORBEL Closest to the Pin competition, three-time ACC Golf Championship winner and former MLB All-Star pitcher Mark Mulder took home the gold with a winning distance of 12 feet and 4 inches from the hole. In honor of his win, The Korbel Toast Life® Foundation donated $5,000 to Douglas County Search and Rescue.
Additionally, more than 40 celebrities competed against one another in the KORBEL Celebrity Spray Off competition to see who could pop their cork the furthest distance. Defending champion Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts took home first place for the second year in a row after popping his cork 75 feet for the furthest distance of the day. While many players attempted to beat out competitors with soaring corks, others, such as Golden State Warriors NBA MVP Stephen Curry, chose to demonstrate their champagne-spraying talent with a locker room style performance.
This year’s American Century Golf Championship raised over $600,000 for local and national charities, and Korbel is honored to sponsor this sparkling event. For more info and pictures of stars celebrating at the annual Lake Tahoe tournament, visit KORBEL’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
