October 1, 2019, Guerneville, CA – Korbel California Champagne once again held the highly-anticipated “Spray-Off” Challenge on September 25th at Silverado Resort in Napa, California, where champion Charles Howell III took home first place and $5,000 from the Korbel Toast Life® Foundation to benefit his charity - The First Academy School in Orlando, Florida.
Just as golf pros made their way to the 17th tee, Korbel challenged players to show off their best champagne-celebration skills during the fourth-annual Spray-Off as part of Wednesday’s Pro-Am. Howell took home the winning title after popping the cork 56.5 feet for the furthest distance of the day. Ranked 9th on the PGA Tour, Howell has had a lot of practice popping corks on the course.
This year’s competition brought together 33 PGA Pro-Am players, all vying for the championship to benefit charity. Contending participants included second place winner Chesson Hadley with a distance of 54.2 feet followed by Phil Michelson with a 51-foot cork shot earning him third place in the Korbel Spray-Off.

Established in 1882 in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, Korbel Champagne Cellars produces the United States’ most popular méthode champenoise champagne. But, the true measure of Korbel’s success during its 137 years can be seen in the impact it’s had on American consumers and its presence at various celebrations throughout the years. Owned and managed by the Heck family since 1954, Korbel currently makes eleven California champagnes and a limited amount of still wine. In a separate facility, Korbel also produces one of the country’s most respected brandies.
